It’s been a long winter. When most sport fans start talking about baseball’s Spring training, I start thinking about the MLS season.
The Colorado Rapids are poised for one of two things: 1) a breakthrough to the MLS finals or 2) a new coach.
Tim Hankinson was given a single season reprive by new owner Stan Kronke. Lucky for him because I think he is a lousy coach. Allison Otto wrote that the pressure is on Hanki. My MLS Fantasy Team name is fire_hanki, just to be clear on where I stand.
On the field, the Rapids have acquired several new faces. Toño, aka Antonio de la Torre, is a Mexican national who will play midfield. This allows Pablo Maestroni to move to central defense (next to Nat Borchers) in place of Robin Fraser – traded to Columbus crew.
Fiery Chris Carrieri was waived. However, the Rapids have been making promising deals to bolster their front line. Between Scottish phenom John Spencer, Liberian Zizi Roberts, on-loan Haitian national, Jean-Phillipe Peguero and (signed yesterday) David Castellanos, the Rapids have scoring punch for sure.
Here’s to a great season! Go Rapids!
P.S. Rapids Fan is the best place to read about the team.
